Spring Magic
Tonight felt magical, unworldly. The moon cast it’s sliver of a muted shimmer over the snowy hills of southern rural Maine. Alex and I found ourselves behind the wheel driving through the darkness toward that shimmer to find a hilltop view.
I’m finding I’m doing that in my life, figuratively too! Chasing that elusive sliver of glimmering light in the night. Creativity is a fickle thing for me. It comes and goes as it pleases, often just when I feel I need it most. It is such a gift and I’m so greatful for when it does surge through. I try to capture it’s essence and form it into my medium of clay.
With the shift of spring energy, so came the urge to make nest shaped bowls and egg shaped bowls. I made 6 beautifully shaped egg bowls and am so excited to enter the realm of bright color! I’ve moved through the subdued cool shades that encased my work the last couple of years, and am now ready to explore the brighter colors of the palate. Turquoise and purple were the first to arrive on the horizon and will grace the eggs’ outer shell with a soft mat white on the inside. I’ll post pictures as they emerge from the kiln.
If I like these glazes, it may open up a new look for my pots. I love that pottery allows me to create a tangible form to express my spirit and it’s evolutions. I believe anyone should have access to this experience in some form. It’s quite healing and satisfying.
A ball of clay is a world in your hands.
